However, if it provides you and your customers with a level of perceived confidence, then that's all that really matters. Soundood, I applaud your attitude towards safety, but in this regard I think your advice is overkill in the extreme. But even taking their ultra cautiousness into account, a single fixing would still be just about adequate (and by 'adequate' I mean 'perfectly fine') in 12.5mm plasterboard. It's important to consider that industry safety standards recommend fixings are utilised to no more than 1/4 of the UWL. If you increase the thickness of plasterboard by 3mm to 15mm, these figures increase to 146KG and 161KG respectively. Sheer Strength - 109KG UWL (ultimate working load) These figures are for 1 Toogler Snaptoogle in 12mm plasterboard:. Plasterboard is a lot stronger than you might think. I went overboard and mounted my bracket using eight of these. They're really great! I have hung a 100kg mirror off a pair of these.

It is over kill for a TV bracket you will get away with standard plaster plugs and just ignore that the wall is double thickness as the force/Wright will be downwards.įor a push pull wall bracket I would use the above.

Ordered them from a chap on eBay from memory. You will probably find you could do a pull up on the bracket with that arrangement. If you are feeling belt and braces then put toggles in to the extremes - assuming the bracket overlaps the ply, if not stick with wood screws.

As long as you have four in to ply you will be fine. You could happily mount that TV with self tapping wood screws in to the ply behind the layers of the plasterboard. the plan is to us 6 toggle bolts, top and bottom at each end then through the two middle holes and 4 wood screws when the plate is in place.

I'm really not trying to ignore professional advice but what's been said is to cut out the plasterboard and fit some timber in between the metal studs and use that as a fixing, which is what I believe I already have. The wall is made up from 2x 12.5mm sheets of plaster on top of 1 sheet of 20mm (3/4 inch) sheet of ply (you can see they layers here: You can believe screfix or any other retailer that doesnt care what happens, or you can trust my opinion, and if you asked me to do this for you as a professional, I would refuse. Trust me on this, for years man has invented crap fixings that can apparently solve this problem, but in the end they are only as strong as the plasterboard itself.Īgain, once the TV is fixed using your method, would you leave a 3 year old in the room with it? maybe pulling at it watching Peppa Pig? Ok so the wall has 2 holes for passing cables through so I'm ok there, ive taken some pics through this so you can see what the wall is made ofĪre you sure they wont hold? I though this was exactly what they were made forsimple answer here matey, no and no to those fixings, those fixings are indeed for plasterboard, but they are only as strong as the plasterboard it is clamping onto, screw them tight enough and they clamp onto the board behind, in turn cutting into it and weakening it further, good for shelves and pictures. Ohh and did I purchase a couple of Dell monitors from you a few years back, I think over at AVforums? With prep and finishing, its an easy job over two days.īe prepared for metal uprights, if you have them, fix spans from the other side, through the uprightsĪnother top tip is to use spacers to bring the plasterboard flush with existing wall, saves a lot of hassle later Now all is good, fix the bracket to the spans, job done. Once done, fill and make good around the plasterboard, then use the screws that you fixed the plasterboard to the spans as a guide to your fixings for the tv, screw some screws along it (not deep) leave them sticking out, and sand and paint area.

What needs to be done is part of the plasterboard has to be removed, then several spans made across the uprights in good timber, once this is done, put the plaster board you cut out, back in, and use the spans to fix it, This is something I do for my customers on the AV side, first thing first, you cant hang a TV of that, simple.
